Around 1955, a group of progressive farmers began efforts to create an association that would be concerned with agricultural research in southeast South Dakota.

On May 3, 1956, the Southeast Experiment Farm Corporation, was formed as a nonprofit organization. The purpose of the corporation was to acquire and disseminate information concerning crop and livestock production.

Research Focus: Corn and soybean management, forages and small grains, weed control, nutrient management, drainage and other locally relevant agronomic practices. This farm also supports integrated crop-livestock research, including 70 acres of fenced cropland for grazing studies and 12 acres of certified organic land.

Size: 594 total acres for crops and livestock.
