The existence of the Frank Ross Glass Plate Negatives Collection is a case of right time, right place. The collection was produced by a Brookings area photographer named Frank Ross, according to a Nov. 17, 2022, Arlington Sun article. Ross captured portraits and images of daily life in and around Brookings County at the turn of the 20th century.
Leadership at USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) have responded to a request from National Bison Association to find a new path for relief for bison producers affected by Mycoplasma infection and mortality. In previous years, the FSA considered Mycoplasma to be a secondary infection in bison, which prevented producers from qualifying for reimbursement for death losses under the agency’s Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP).
Anand honored for teaching excellence. Nicholas Uilk, an instructor in South Dakota State University’s Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering, has been named a recipient of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities national teaching awards in recognizing excellence in agricultural sciences teaching and student engagement.
Professor Padu Krishnan of South Dakota State University’s Department of Dairy and Food Science received the 2020 Edith A. Christensen Award for Outstanding Contributions in Analytical Methodology from the Cereals & Grains Association. He is the first South Dakota State University faculty member to get the award, which recognizes the central role analytical methods play in cereal and grain research.
The future of America’s national mammal continued to brighten this week as officials from South Dakota State University, the National Bison Association and the National Buffalo Foundation formally launched the Center of Excellence for Bison Studies, to be headquartered at SDSU’s West River Research and Extension facility in Rapid City.
