Fraternity and Sorority Life

Why is Greek Life right for you?

Since 1964, Fraternity and Sorority Life at South Dakota State University has been home to high-achieving students and future leaders.

Joining a fraternity or sorority is more than entering a new friendship circle. As a member of Greek Life, you'll have the chance to:

  • Discover new leadership opportunities
  • Provide service to communities near and far through organized philanthropy events
  • Have access to academic resources like peer tutoring and group study sessions
  • Build character through the exchange of knowledge, talents and perspectives
  • Establish a network of notable alumni from around the country

Home to six men's fraternities and two women's sororities, our community has a chapter for you to join that feels like home.

Fraternity or sorority membership is a great way to make new friends, build personal and professional connections, get involved on campus and make a difference in your community.

A fraternal organization (fraternity for men and sorority for women) is a group of people with similar goals and values who make a lifetime commitment to an organization. Each chapter was founded on ideals like mutual support, community service, scholarship, lifelong friendships and personal and professional development. Their shared experiences build friendships that last a lifetime. Fraternity or sorority membership is a great way to make new friends, build personal and professional connections, get involved on campus and make a difference in your community.

Fraternity recruitment is a mutual selection process held year-round that allows for potential members and chapters to find the organization that feels like home. Through this process, interested students will meet chapter members at a variety of events held by individual chapters. Fraternity recruitment is a values-based process, which means men are encouraged to have conversations around their personal and chapter values.

Sorority recruitment is a mutual selection process held each fall that allows for potential members and chapters to find the organization that feels like home. Through this three-day process, potential members will meet members of all chapters on campus and gradually narrow down the number of chapters they visit throughout the weekend. Sorority recruitment is a values-based process, which means that women are encouraged to have conversations around their personal and chapter values.

In the spring semester, our sororities are recruiting based on their individual chapter events.

If you have questions about joining a sorority, please fill out the sorority interest form below, and someone will be in touch shortly.
